Huge demand for Knights Park in Woolton


Redrow’s first new homes within the Liverpool Housing Partnership look set to be vastly over-subscribed.

Hundreds of prospective purchasers have already registered their interest in just 21 family homes being built at Knights Park, Woolton – site of the old Watergate School, which was decommissioned in 2005.

“This is proof that Liverpool needs more high quality accommodation of this nature,” said Faye Whiteoak, development director for Redrow. “There is much debate about the shortage of affordable homes in the city, but in reality there is a scarcity of all type of homes to meet local demand.

“That’s what the Liverpool Housing Partnership is all about; working in partnership with the City Council and Liverpool Mutual Homes to offer a broad spectrum of choice. Between us we will provide a wide range of housing from affordable homes for shared ownership or social rent to the kind of premium properties that until now people might have had to relocate to places like Formby and Wirral to own.”

Knights Park sits in the middle of this spread; three and four-bedroom family homes from Redrow’s Arts & Crafts inspired Heritage Collection, in a mix of semi-detached and detached styles. Prices are likely to start at around £250,000 and family friendly features such as en-suite bathroom, ground floor cloakroom and utility room or laundry space are standard. The development is close to the shops, post office and facilities of Woolton village.

Councillor Frank Hont, Cabinet member for housing, said: “We are absolutely committed to developing housing for people with a range of budgets through the Liverpool Housing Partnership. The phenomenal interest in this particular development is more evidence that there is significant demand for new, high quality family homes in Liverpool. We need to make sure that people who want a larger modern property are able to find it within the city boundary, rather than having to move outside of the area.”

Redrow is currently working on giving all interested parties a fair chance of owning one of the Knights Park homes.

Claire Jarvis, Redrow sales director, explains: “We are planning to hold a series of pre-launch events during April and May, which we will be announcing to would-be homeowners on our database very soon. These events will give us the opportunity to find out more about the people who have registered their interest and to establish if they are in a position to proceed. We will then be able to guide them through the next steps of the process.”

Knights Park is the first Redrow development to launch as part of the Liverpool Housing Partnership, an initiative first announced in 2014 and formalised last year.

Redrow also has planning permission for 60 family homes at Redbridge Park, Fazakerley – site of the the former Redbridge and Bank View High Schools – and for 51 new homes and nine refurbished properties in West Derby, on the site of the former Holly Lodge Girls’ College. Plans are also advanced for 17 private sales homes and five affordable properties on the vacant site of the former Ernest Cookson School in Mill Lane, West Derby.

“Helping to keep people in the city by improving the housing choice will, in turn, boost council tax revenue, while building the homes will support local jobs,” Faye Whiteoak added.
